Comall McFarlane (1st & 2nd Tenor)

Music is more than just rhymes and rhythm… it is an art and a way of life. Growing up I slowly but surely learned this from my parents. My mom is an amazing singer, and so is my father. I am the oldest of the 5 children, one in which sings in the group with me. I had always enjoyed hearing my mom sing at church, or even my pops singing his reggae music. Growing up in a household of various types of music, my brother and sister were destined to do great things with music. We all grew up singing in the school choir, church choir, etc. As time went by music became an art, or something I put my heart and feelings into completely.

Freshman year in high school, I discovered that there is more to my voice than I had thought. My mother encouraged me to join the choir and to do a voice class that year, but I rejected the idea. At first a lot of people didn’t like me, except the teacher. Over time, she started to realize my potential, and so did the music department in our school. Soon enough I would become one of the best male singers in our music department. This is the time of my life where music has now become a way of life. I continued to take voice class to learn range and technique for singing. I started doing school musicals, sing at cabarets, and have been chosen many times to sing “The Star Spangled Banner” at several basketball games.

Towards the end of my senior year, eight people from our church were chosen to make an all male Acapella group. My brother, Careem, and I were chosen. As time grew we realized that we all had a “dominant gift”, given by the Lord to express his word through our voices.. My voice is an instrument that I use to sometimes serenade, stop conflicts, and entertain, but I mostly use it to lift up Jesus’ name.

I am currently a Rutgers college student, but I am in Raritan Valley Community College for the semester. My major is criminal justice, a field I will use to help others in the future. I also work at Johnson and Johnson being the youngest employee in my building. I will continue to sing and hope and pray that one day, many will be saved by our group’s songs. I pray that this will all be accomplished before the second coming of our Lord, Jesus Christ!

God Bless.
