David Wedderburn (1st & 2nd Tenor, Sound, Group Manager)
Although I do not consider myself a great singer of any sorts, I love to sing. I’ve always love singing ever since I can remember. I listen to other folks sing and they can pick out specific parts from a mile away and sing them all. I on the other hand, have to focus and work on it one at a time! Singing Hymns in church is a favorite of mine ever since I was 10 years old or so. I still love doing it today. Growing up a shy person, I kind of got out of my shell by singing. When I was about 16 years old; three good friends of mine, Robert Bovell, Marlon Bramble, and Desmond Brown, asked me to join them in forming a quartet at the North Bronx SDA church. We had a good time singing and fellow-shipping during that era. I thank the late Brother Peter Bovell for all his fatherly and positive influence on all us young men.
Along with that, I grew up with Acapella music also. I attended Atlantic Union College (AUC) and I listen to many quartets and groups that were active on campus. I was also a member of the Men’s Chorale and learn a lot from Dr. Frazier. I remember the Heritage Singers quartet; The King Heralds with Jim McClintock low bass; Breath Of Life Quartet with Walter Arties soaring tenor voice; yeah, I remember. Later on I was introduced to The Acapella Company under Keith Lancaster, Vocal Union, Take 6, my boys 7th Element, Golden Gate Quartet from back then, and many, many more. My mix group InChrist, it’s not over yet. I have and listen to all groups as long as they sing Acapella music. I have groups from the 20s , 30s, and 40s.
The Lord is center of all of this; He is the reason that I do what I do. In spite of my frail and often fallen self, He loves me with a love that I truly do not understand. I thank Him and I thank all my sons (I call them my sons..well they are) that form Immensus8 for their efforts and their willingness, although I have to crack the whip sometimes!
My brothers, let’s keep up the work for the Lord, let’s not give up the fight, no matter what. My favorite text is found in Jeremiah 12: 5 says, “If thou hast run with the footmen, and they have wearied thee, then how canst thou contend with horses? and if in the land of peace, wherein thou trustedst, they wearied thee, then how wilt thou do in the swelling of Jordan?”.
My fellow believers keep strong in the Lord and He will see you through.
God bless, Dave W.
